I first participated in NaNoWriMo in 2008. During the month, I posted daily about my journey through this novel writing experience (it is the first novel I have written).
It is no suprise that the Novel originally titled “The (not so) Secret Society of Corporate Heroes”, but in the last moment renamed to “Zetoec” draws on my working experiences – honestly I have few other reference points. It has evolved into a mash up between every day ordinary life and fantasy where work colleagues become super heroes in their own rights, engaged in fighting the demonic forces in the Absurd. In fantasy everything is possible, so I can let my imagination run free unfettered by authentic references.
Apart from dedicating time each day to write, the best thing about NaNoWriMo is the support from my friends and family in taking up this challenge. Although they will not get to read it until after 30 November, except for the brief take outs I decide to post, they are giving me regular encouragement. It has also been great to read the shared experience of othe NaNoWriMo on the forums and blogs. I do not feel alone.
